Had the colonoscopy today, and...
Yeah, it looks like cancer. Crap. I’ll need to go for a chest X-Ray to make sure it hasn’t spread, but they looked at my liver on the CT and there’s no evidence of it there, so it’s probably localized to just the colon. It sounds like they caught it early, so hopefully a little snip snip and it’ll be gone.
As a reminder to those who are 50+ or have a history of colon cancer in your family, please, get a colonoscopy.

Are your docs recommending chemo first, or snip snip then chemo?

No talk of chemo at this point, but it’s still early. Right now the doctor was mentioning surgical removal, and radiation if needed.

Was this just a hyperplasia (polyp) or did pathology come back as malignant ? How many did they find, just the one?

Oh no. I’m sad to see this. At least it seems like they’ve caught it early. Please keep us posted, and let us know if there’s anything else we can do

Obviously not good news, but it sounds like the situation is far from hopeless. Hang in there!

Still waiting on pathology. There were a number of polyps, many of which were removed for biopsy, but this is being described as a mass.
And after all that horrible prep work over the last day they said that preparation was sub-optimal. I’m so used to a high fiber diet these days that I didn’t bother to cut back on the fruits and vegies a week ahead of time as I probably should have. C’est la vie...

Someday, when I’m in a better frame of mind, and the topic doesn’t hit so close to home, remind me to tell you about how my wife and her oncologist decided to prank her gastroenterologist the day she was supposed to get scoped.
My best wishes to you, man. Stay positive, stay fucking positive .

I really, really hope that it’s early - and that the prognosis is good. Prayers for you. And, FYI - my wife is a GI doc, so if you have questions, I can run them by her if you like. Just let me know, and I can give you a direct contact for me.
And so much hell yes on the colonoscopy - many people don’t realize this, but a colonoscopy is not just diagnostic - it’s preventative. Even if all is good, the GI doc will remove polyps that can be pre-cancerous.
Best wishes for a quick recovery!!

I had a malignant tumor in my colon at age 16. It was removed and I didn’t have to have radiation or chemo. It’s been almost 25 years and still cancer free. They caught it really early, I was having a colonoscopy for a different reason, and were able to nip it in the bud.
Good Luck.

I got 15 inches of large intestine removed February 2017. Other than going #2 more often, i’m Back to normal. Wasn’t cancer for me, but I still need to get a yearly colonoscopy just to make sure no cancer or other problems. I’m gonna be 40 next April started having pains in my intestines before 24.

I’ll be crossing my fingers the path comes back benign. Also, I don’t think what you ate the week preceding should have affected your prep appreciably.

Damn, seems to be going around lately. My significant others mom is waiting to find out how serious her breast cancer is, and my mom is waiting to hear if some sort of mass in one of her lungs is cancer. So yeah, stay positive, fuck cancer, I hope they caught it early.

When I was visiting my girlfriend in the hospital after part of her large intestine was removed, I got to know the staff pretty well and one of the doctors and I shared a good laugh about an old robot chicken skit that ends with optimus prime reminding you to get a colonoscopy. Dark topic sometimes but....sometimes you need a bit of humor about stuff like this.

Dang. Sorry to hear that. I’m six years out from cancer. Be sure to check the research for the latest treatment plans . I was given an experimental chemo regime which was the same drugs, just a different protocol. It’s been successful so far.
Good luck with your treatment. We’ll all be here to help lift your spirits when you need it!
